What are Independent Living Services?
Independent Living Services (ILS) help adults with developmental disabilities learn the practical skills to live independently, now or in the future: daily routines, home life, safety, money, transportation, community access, and self advocacy, done on their own or with minimal support.
Who is ILS for?
Adults 18 and older who want to live more independently, now or in the future, and learn the skills to do things on their own or with minimal support. Goals and hours depend on the participant's desired outcomes and regional center approval.
Is traditional ILS different from ILS through the Self Determination Program?
The support is the same: the same coaches, the same approach, and the same session updates. Traditional ILS is funded by your regional center. Participants in the Self Determination Program can receive the same ILS through their SDP plan.
Where is traditional ILS with bttr. available?
Traditional ILS with bttr. is available to Regional Center of the East Bay clients in cities across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Participants at other regional centers can receive the same ILS statewide through the Self Determination Program.
Does bttr. provide ILS for adults with autism?
Yes. bttr. supports adults with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, epilepsy, and other developmental disabilities through practical, person centered coaching.
Can ILS help with cooking, cleaning, and laundry?
Yes. ILS can support cooking, meal planning, cleaning, laundry, home organization, hygiene reminders, routines, and home safety.
Can ILS help with budgeting, SSI, and CalABLE?
Yes. ILS may support budgeting, shopping, bill reminders, banking routines, SSI awareness, CalABLE basics, and safer spending.
Can ILS help with BART, buses, and appointments?
Yes. ILS may support transportation routines, BART, buses, transit apps, errands, medical appointments, and safer community participation.
Is ILS available in Spanish?
Yes. bttr. supports Spanish speaking participants and families, including coaching, communication, and session updates in Spanish.
How do we start ILS with bttr.?
Speak with your Regional Center of the East Bay Service Coordinator and request bttr. as the provider. ILS is funded by your regional center once the participant's goals are approved in their IPP. You can also email team@bttrliving.com for a free consultation.
