Independent Living Services and Tailored Day Services are taught where the skill is used. These are places our coaches and participants work in, organized by the part of town you live in.

• Central Fremont and Centerville

  Fremont BART station, the Fremont Main Library on Stevenson Boulevard, Central Park and Lake Elizabeth, the Fremont Hub, and the grocery stores and pharmacies along Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard.

• Irvington and Mission San José

  Irvington's shops along Fremont Boulevard, Ohlone College on Mission Boulevard, Mission San José's neighborhood cafes, and AC Transit stops that connect both districts to BART.

• Warm Springs and South Fremont

  Warm Springs / South Fremont BART, Pacific Commons for shopping and job practice, and the trails and community spaces around the Warm Springs district.

• Niles and Ardenwood

  Niles Town Plaza and the Niles district, Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, Ardenwood Historic Farm, and Coyote Hills Regional Park for walking routines and community outings.

Session locations follow the participant's goals and the plan approved by their regional center or FMS. Places listed here are examples of community settings, not partners or program sites.

Getting around Fremont independently

Transportation training is one of the most requested Independent Living Services goals in Fremont, because the city is large and most trips need more than one step.

• BART from Fremont and Warm Springs

  Practicing real trips from Fremont station or Warm Springs / South Fremont station to Union City, Hayward, Oakland, San Jose, or a college campus, with a coach along for the first rides.

• AC Transit across the city

  Learning the bus routes that connect Centerville, Irvington, Mission San José, and Warm Springs to BART, school, work, and the places the person goes every week.

• East Bay Paratransit and rideshare

  Help applying for and using paratransit when it fits, and safe habits for rideshare apps, including what to do if a plan changes.

• Walking and biking routes

  Short, repeatable routes to the library, a grocery store, a park, or a friend's home, built up one step at a time.

After high school in Fremont

Many Fremont families contact bttr when a student is leaving the school system. School services end; regional center services continue for eligible adults, and the routines that used to be managed for the student now belong to them.

• Transition age youth

  Students finishing programs at Fremont Unified high schools and the district's adult transition program can begin Independent Living Services once their regional center authorizes them, often in the same semester.

• Ohlone College routines

  For adults taking classes at Ohlone College in Fremont, coaching can cover class schedules, study blocks, getting to campus, and asking for accommodations through the college's own services.

• Fremont Adult School and community programs

  Coaching can support the routines around adult education, job training, and volunteer commitments so they hold beyond the first few weeks.

• Families at home

  Coordinated Family Support helps parents organize providers, benefits, and IPP goals after the school team steps away, with one point of contact at bttr.

Funding through RCEB or SDP

• Regional Center of the East Bay

  Fremont residents apply to RCEB, which determines eligibility under the Lanterman Act, writes the need into the Individual Program Plan (IPP), authorizes hours, and pays bttr directly. Ask your Service Coordinator for bttr by name.

• Self Determination Program

  RCEB clients who choose SDP receive an individual budget, build a spending plan with an Independent Facilitator, and a Financial Management Service pays bttr. We help map services to the plan.

• Not yet a regional center client?

  Start with RCEB intake or the DDS eligibility page. A diagnosis on its own does not guarantee eligibility; the regional center decides based on the person's assessment. bttr can help you understand the process.
